Description
The Radial J48 solves a common problem with active DI boxes: running out of headroom on 48V phantom power. Radial built a switching power supply into the J48 that pushes peak transient handling up to 9 volts, so the box doesn’t choke or compress when you feed it a hot signal from a bass, keyboard, or acoustic pickup. The payoff is lower harmonic distortion and roughly half the inter-modulation distortion you’d get from a typical phantom-powered DI, along with noticeably cleaner dynamics.
Control-wise, the J48 gives you what you actually need on a gig or session:
- -15dB pad for taming loud sources
- 180° polarity reverse switch
- Merge function for combining two signals down to mono
- 80Hz high-pass filter to cut stage/floor rumble
- Ground lift for eliminating hum and buzz
Build quality follows Radial’s usual playbook — a welded I-beam chassis designed to survive load-in, load-out, and everything in between without rattling apart. For larger rigs, Radial’s J-Rack shelf lets you rack-mount up to eight J48 or JDI units in just 2U, with inputs or outputs facing front depending on how your rack is wired, which makes inventory management a lot simpler for touring and rental stock.
In short: an active DI that stays clean under pressure, runs on standard phantom power, and holds up to daily use in a studio or on the road.
