Description
The PR 48 is Heil Sound’s answer to getting a kick drum to sit right in a mix without hours of EQ work. At its core is a 1.5″ large diaphragm dynamic capsule, cushioned in a vulcanized shock mount to keep unwanted vibration out of your signal. The real trick is in the tuning: a specially designed low pass filter builds in a +10dB boost from 50 to 100Hz, landing squarely on the frequency range where a kick drum’s low-end punch actually lives. A second, more subtle boost of +4dB between 3.5K and 5K brings out the click of the beater hitting the head, while response falls off sharply above 8.5K to keep internal drum shell noise and rattle out of the picture.
Overall frequency response runs 30Hz to 8.5kHz, with a cardioid pickup pattern that rejects sound from the rear by -40dB at 180 degrees off-axis – handy for isolating the kick from the rest of a live drum kit. With a max SPL handling of +148dB, it won’t flinch at even the most aggressive double-bass playing.
This bundle takes the guesswork out of getting set up, pairing the mic with a Jamstands kick drum stand built to hold it low and steady in front of the resonant head, plus a 20′ XLR cable to reach your interface or mixer without needing a separate cable run.
