Description
One mic, three personalities. The AT2050 switches between cardioid, omnidirectional, and figure-of-eight patterns, so a single condenser can cover a solo vocal take one night and a room-capture duo interview the next — no swapping gear, just flipping a switch. Its dual gold-vaporized diaphragms are aged during manufacturing to lock in stable, natural characteristics that hold up over years of regular use, not just out of the box.
Built-in flexibility extends past polar patterns: an 80 Hz high-pass filter (12 dB/octave) tames rumble and proximity buildup, while a 10 dB pad pushes maximum handling up to 159 dB SPL for close-miking loud sources like guitar cabs or drum overheads without flinching. At 149 dB SPL max input (flat) and a low 17 dB self-noise rating, it stays clean whether you’re tracking a whisper-quiet acoustic part or standing in front of a cranked amp.
A-T builds this one with surface-mount electronics to its own internal consistency standards, so what you hear on the test bench is what you get on your session. For studio or stage, it’s a genuinely go-to condenser.
