The AT2020 is the side-address workhorse here—wide dynamic range, strong high-SPL handling, and a low-mass diaphragm tuned for extended frequency response and quick transient capture. It’s the mic you’ll reach for on lead vocals, guitar amps, or anything that needs a solid, present sound. The AT2021 handles the jobs the AT2020 isn’t shaped for: its small-diaphragm cardioid design is a natural on acoustic guitar, hi-hat, piano, and drum overheads, thanks to a similarly low-mass element and gold-plated XLRM connector for reliable, corrosion-resistant connections.
Both mics share Audio-Technica’s cardioid polar pattern, rejecting off-axis noise from the sides and rear so your recordings stay focused on the source. Each also runs on standard 48V phantom power and includes its own mounting hardware and protective pouch, so you can get either one on a stand without hunting for extra parts.
