The PR 22 takes Heil’s dynamic mic design in a new direction, aiming squarely at vocalists, engineers, and broadcasters who need one microphone that can cover live sound, studio tracking, and commercial broadcast without compromise. It’s built around a large 1-1/8″ low-mass diaphragm paired with a neodymium-iron-boron magnet structure, giving it a wide frequency range, low handling noise, and the ability to take SPL levels approaching 150 dB.

Where the PR 22 stands out is in its handling of the upper mid-range, which gives lead and backing vocals natural articulation without harshness. That same frequency response and dynamic range make it just as capable on a snare drum or guitar cabinet, so it earns its keep beyond the vocal mic stand.

Heil’s decades of work on communications microphones and phase coherence show up in the PR 22’s cardioid pattern, which delivers up to 40 dB of rear rejection to keep off-axis noise out of the signal. There’s no exaggerated proximity effect and no harsh hot spot to fight against on stage.

Low-end handling noise typically falls between 50 and 100 Hz, a range many microphones simply filter out at the cost of your voice’s low end. Heil instead developed the ISO BAND, a Sorbothane rubber suspension system (patent pending) that suppresses that noise mechanically while preserving the full 50 Hz to 18 kHz response inherited from the PR 20 diaphragm design.
