The PR35 takes the well-regarded PR30 element and reworks it into a handheld form factor built for broadcast booths, project studios, and live stages alike. Rather than settling for the typical handheld dynamic sound, Heil engineered this mic around a large 1 1/2″ aluminum voice coil and a specialized magnet structure to deliver a genuinely flat, wide-range response from 40 Hz to 18 kHz — territory usually reserved for studio condensers.
A hum-bucking coil is wound and positioned specifically to let you work right next to video monitors and other electrically noisy gear without picking up buzz. The phasing plug design uses evenly spaced rear ports that cancel out-of-phase sound arriving from behind the capsule, producing a tight, linear cardioid pattern. The payoff is reduced proximity effect and crisp articulation, even when you get in close on the mic. Rejection is strongest directly behind the mic (180 degrees off-axis), and off-axis coloration stays minimal across the pattern.
This capsule shrugs off high SPL sources without distorting or choking, and since it’s a passive dynamic design, there’s no phantom power or DC supply needed — plug in and go. A three-position roll-off switch lets you dial in flat response, a gentle -3 dB cut, or a deeper -6 dB cut depending on the source and room.
Physically, it’s substantial: 7-2/3″ long, 2″ across at the head, tapering to 1″ at the XLR end, wrapped in a rubberized coating for quiet handling. It ships with a mic clip fitting standard 5/8″-27 threads and a leatherette carrying case. Amateur radio operators will need a CC-1 XLR cable to connect to a transceiver.
