Description
The Digital MPA-II takes the analog character of ART’s ProMPA design and adds a clean path into your digital rig. Each of the two channels runs through a hand-selected 12AX7 tube stage with switchable low/high plate voltage, so you get two distinct flavors of preamp coloration from the same box. Variable input impedance (150 to 2400 ohms) lets you reshape how dynamic and ribbon mics respond, and 48v phantom power is on tap for condensers.
Run the two channels independently in dual mono, or link them as a stereo pair with mid/side decoding built in — handy for anyone tracking with an M/S mic setup. A front-panel instrument input with automatic switching means you can plug a bass or guitar straight in without hunting for a DI box.
Beyond the standard XLR and 1/4″ analog outs, the built-in A/D converter pushes digital audio out via ADAT, S/PDIF, or AES/EBU, selectable from a front-panel rotary encoder along with sample rates from 44.1 up to 192 kHz and 16-bit dithering. Two wordclock jacks with loop-through keep everything locked to your session. Backlit VU meters track output level in real time, while multi-color LED arrays show tube gain and digital levels with both average and peak hold.
It’s built into a 2U steel rack chassis with a CNC-routed, black anodized aluminum faceplate — solid enough for a permanent home in a studio rack.
