Description
The Tascam DR-10L solves a problem every videographer knows: getting clean dialog without stringing cables or fussing with wireless receivers. Barely 2 x 2 inches and an inch thick, this black recorder clips onto a belt or tucks into a pocket, keeping the gear invisible while the included omnidirectional lavalier mic captures speech from any angle. Prefer your own lav? The locking 3.5mm input accepts most Sennheiser-wired mics and can supply 2V plug-in power when needed.
Operation is deliberately simple—power on and hit record, with no input routing or channel setup to slow you down on a fast-moving shoot. A single AAA battery keeps it running for up to 10 hours, or plug into USB for sessions that run long into the night. If the battery dies mid-take, the DR-10L automatically closes and saves the file before shutting down.
Distortion protection comes in layers: an automatic gain control corrects levels on the fly, a limiter catches unexpected peaks, and dual recording lays down a quieter safety track (-6dB or -12dB) as backup. Monitor input or playback through the 3.5mm headphone jack with adjustable volume, and keep an eye on battery status via the OLED display.
Storage runs on microSD (up to 2GB) or microSDHC (up to 32GB) cards, recording in WAV for full fidelity or MP3 to stretch card space—a 2GB card holds over four hours of mono audio at 24-bit/48kHz.
