Description
The AT2050 earns its spot as a studio workhorse by covering more ground than a single-pattern condenser ever could. Flip between cardioid, omnidirectional, and figure-of-eight to handle vocal booths, room recording, or Mid-Side stereo setups without swapping mics mid-session. The dual large diaphragms are gold-vaporized and aged during manufacturing, a process meant to keep their response stable rather than drifting as the capsule sees years of use.
Built-in switches give you a fast toggle for an 80 Hz high-pass filter (12 dB/octave) to tame rumble and proximity buildup, plus a 10 dB pad that pushes maximum SPL handling up to 159 dB—enough headroom for close-mic’d guitar cabs or brass without distortion creeping in. With a 20-20,000 Hz frequency range and 77 dB signal-to-noise ratio, it stays clean on sources ranging from acoustic piano and strings to drum overheads and amps, in both studio and live settings.
Audio-Technica builds the internals with surface-mount electronics to its own consistency benchmarks, so unit-to-unit performance stays predictable. Runs on standard phantom power (11-52V DC).
