The HD 800 S remains Sennheiser’s benchmark for uncolored, spacious sound reproduction, and this open-box unit gets you into that reference-class experience at a lower price point. Built around 56mm transducers – among the largest drivers ever fitted to a dynamic headphone – housed in stainless steel casings, these cans push an exceptionally wide 4Hz-51kHz frequency response (-10dB) with just 0.02% total harmonic distortion at 1kHz/100dB. The angled driver placement pushes sound toward the ear off-axis, which is a big part of why the HD 800 S is known for its wide, believable soundstage rather than a narrow, in-your-head presentation.

Comfort was clearly a design priority: the circumaural earcups use handmade microfiber padding, and the whole headband assembly is built from lightweight aerospace materials so the clamping weight disappears during long mix or listening sessions. The open earcup design keeps resonance low and lets the drivers breathe, which is exactly what you want when you’re trying to judge bass definition, stereo imaging, or overall tonal balance rather than just enjoy a hyped consumer curve.

Sennheiser also included Absorber Technology inside the earcups to control the masking effect that muddies high frequencies at louder volumes, so top-end detail stays clear instead of smearing. On the connectivity side, dual 6.3mm and 4.4mm cable terminations mean these will pair with a broad range of desktop and portable headphone amps without needing extra adapters.
