The RE320 solves a common mic locker problem: needing different tonal characters for different sources without buying two microphones. Electro-Voice built in a “Dual Personality” switch that toggles between a kick-drum-optimized curve and a general-purpose curve, so one mic covers a much wider range of studio and stage duties than its size suggests.

Under the hood is a neodymium dynamic capsule for fast transient response and clear high-frequency pickup, paired with EV’s Variable-D design. Variable-D keeps tone consistent even as off-axis angle or mic distance changes, avoiding the boomy proximity-effect swings that plague many directional mics. That stability matters when a vocalist or instrumentalist moves around during a take. A humbucking coil, the same tech used in EV’s RE20 and RE27N/D, also keeps electromagnetic hum and buzz out of the signal path, which is especially useful near amps, pedalboards, and other noisy stage gear.
