The TELEFUNKEN M80 was built to answer a simple complaint: most dynamic handheld mics sound thick and midrange-heavy compared to a good condenser. TELEFUNKEN went a different route, pairing a low-mass capsule with an ultra-thin membrane so the M80 tracks vocal nuance and dynamics with a level of intimacy usually reserved for studio condensers, even at high SPL and directly on a live stage.

Its cardioid dynamic capsule and head assembly are engineered to tame proximity effect, which keeps low-end response clean and controlled rather than muddy or boomy when singers work close to the grille. You still get a forward, confident presence with an airy top end, but without the harsh upper-midrange buildup that causes feedback and “honk” on loud stages.

A big part of the M80’s character comes from its American-made, custom-wound impedance matching transformer, working alongside the proprietary capsule to shape that signature tone. It’s a combination that’s earned the M80 a devoted following of engineers and performers since its release.
